Classic Westerns

There are many what would be considered classic westerns in both the television as well as the film industry. It is this genre that is a constant favorite of many cowboy buffs and these folks will always be found watching them when they are being shown on television.

These shows would feature gunfights and horseback riding throughout the west and there were both good guys and bad guys.

There are many of these that could be discussed however, we are limited on space and will only be able to browse over some of the best of them all. But, we will consider the best of television as well as the best movies and hopefully some of them will be considered your classics too.

Lets begin with television and explore some of the considered classic shows that were part of that era.

Probably the most well known classic western television show would be "Gunsmoke." This was a show that would follow the adventures of a town's Marshall by the name of Matt Dillon and was played by Jame Arness. Another one of the popular television westerns was "The Lone Ranger." Which featured Clayton Moore and most people that enjoy westerns are familiar with this specific show. Yet another one of these was "Bonanza" which followed the Cartwright Brothers and gave Michael Landon his primary acting start.

When movies are concerned, there are two primary actors that most people associate with this genre of movies. Clint Eastwood, who began by making spaghetti westerns such as "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, The Outlaw Josie Wales, A Fist Full of Dollars," and For a Few Dollars More." He has recently won an Oscar for another western movie performance, "Unforgiven." John Wayne starred in many western oriented movies with a few of the more notable being "Rooster Cogburn, The Alamo, and True Grit."

But, these are not the only actors or actresses that have been in these types of movies. On the contrary, there are more than most people would want to count. These were way back when folks like Tom Mix and Fess Parker would grace the screen, as well as newer and more well known types of actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Emilio Esteves.

And, it was not just the actors that would take part in these, there were also many actresses too. Woman like Barbara Stanwyck, Sharon Stone, and even Marilyn Monroe.

There has been a recent resurgence with the western genre or influence and this has been met with a tremendous amount of success. Therefore, it is rather obvious that not only are the older classic westerns popular but, the newer westerns are certainly destined to follow suit for sure.
